Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & Wine Tasting

An afternoon inside the Vatican Museums, followed by an Italian wine tasting minutes away.

Overview

The Vatican Museums hold one of the world's largest art collections — over nine miles of galleries leading to the Sistine Chapel. This tour covers the essential route in roughly 75 minutes with an expert guide, timed for the museums' quieter late-afternoon hours, ending before Michelangelo's ceiling and the Last Judgment. From the Vatican, the group walks a few minutes into the Prati district to Magazzino Scipioni, a working wine shop and tasting room. There, a sommelier leads a seated tasting of three Italian wines, paired with cured meats and cheeses from small producers — the kind of Roman wine culture most Vatican visitors never see. Built for travelers who want the Vatican's art history handled properly, then an evening that feels like Rome rather than a gift shop.

Frequently asked questions

Is St. Peter's Basilica included?

No. This tour covers the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel only. St. Peter's Basilica has separate, free entry with its own queue — pair this with our St. Peter's Basilica tour, a ninety-minute guided visit that skips that queue, if you want both landmarks in one day.

What if I have a dietary restriction for the wine tasting?

Let us know at booking. The tasting can usually be adjusted for common allergies and vegetarian diets, and at least 24 hours' notice is appreciated so the pairing can be prepared properly. We will confirm with the tasting room exactly what can be served on the day of your visit.

Can children join?

Children are welcome on the museum visit, a guided walk of roughly seventy-five minutes. The wine tasting is designed for adults — please confirm with us in advance if you are traveling with minors, as venue policy on minors at the tasting table varies. We would rather answer that before you book than at the door.

Is the tour available every day?

The tasting room is closed on Mondays, so this tour never runs on a Monday — Tuesday through Sunday only. It is built around the museums' quieter late-afternoon hours, so departures sit in the second half of the day. If the date you want is a Monday, write to us and we will suggest the nearest alternative.

How long is the tour, and how much walking is involved?

This experience runs about 2 hours 45 min at an unhurried pace, with regular pauses so your guide can answer questions along the way. Expect a comfortable amount of walking, some of it on uneven historic ground, so wear sturdy, broken-in shoes. Allow a little extra time to reach the meeting point beforehand.

Where does the tour start, and how will I find the guide?

You will meet your guide at Via Tunisi 13, in Prati, near the Vatican Museums. Please arrive about fifteen minutes early so the group can set off promptly at the booked time. The exact address and a contact number are confirmed in your booking email, and your guide will be holding an Eterno sign.

Which languages is the tour available in?

This tour is guided in English and Italian. If you would prefer a private departure in another language, contact us before booking and we will do our best to arrange it. Groups stay small, capped at 20 guests, so everyone can hear the guide clearly throughout.
