Overview
Trastevere means "across the Tiber", and the river has always kept the quarter slightly apart — long enough for it to hold on to its working-class kitchen while the centre gentrified its own. This three-hour evening walk eats through its lanes the way the neighbourhood does: standing at counters, sitting at trattoria tables, and letting each stop do the one thing it does best. The route runs four to five stops. Supplì — Rome's fried rice croquettes, molten at the centre — from a counter locals still queue at; pizza bianca warm from the oven; cheese and cured meats sliced at a family-run bottega; a plate of fresh pasta at a trattoria table; gelato to close. Every stop is paired with a Lazio wine, moving from Frascati whites to Cesanese reds, so the region's cellar tells its story alongside its kitchen. The quantities are honest: taken together, the stops amount to a complete Roman dinner, so come hungry and skip the pre-dinner snack. With no more than ten guests and about two flat kilometres between the first supplì and the last spoonful of gelato, the pace stays conversational. You meet on Piazza Trilussa as the quarter's evening begins; three hours later, you are having dinner inside it.

How much food is served — should I eat beforehand?
Please do not. Across four to five stops, the tastings add up to a complete Roman dinner: fried starters, pizza bianca, cheese and cured meats, a fresh pasta course and gelato to finish. Guests who arrive hungry finish satisfied; guests who ate earlier tend to regret it by the pasta.
Can you accommodate dietary requirements?
Vegetarians are fully covered when you tell us at booking, with substitutions at every stop. Several stops can adapt gluten-free, though fried items share oil with dishes containing gluten, so we are honest about the limits. Flag any need when you book and we confirm exactly what is possible.
What are the pace and atmosphere like?
Unhurried. The route covers about two kilometres of flat lanes over three hours, with a mix of seated and standing stops. Evening Trastevere is lively, and the tour leans into it: this is a convivial, table-hopping dinner among people who live here, not a lecture with snacks attached.
How long is the tour, and how much walking is involved?
This experience runs about 3 hours at an unhurried pace, with regular pauses so your guide can answer questions along the way. Expect a comfortable amount of walking, some of it on uneven historic ground, so wear sturdy, broken-in shoes. Allow a little extra time to reach the meeting point beforehand.
Where does the tour start, and how will I find the guide?
You will meet your guide in Piazza Trilussa, on the Trastevere bank of the Tiber. Please arrive about fifteen minutes early so the group can set off promptly at the booked time. The exact address and a contact number are confirmed in your booking email, and your guide will be holding an Eterno sign.
Which languages is the tour available in?
This tour is guided in English and Italian. If you would prefer a private departure in another language, contact us before booking and we will do our best to arrange it. Groups stay small, capped at 10 guests, so everyone can hear the guide clearly throughout.
